Barry Goldwater Quote juxtaposed with the 1990's
Had a discussion about the Iraq War and I was looking for information on the web to illustrate my philosophical position. I found this quote attributed to Barry Goldwater about WWII. It brought a new clarity to the 1990's and our post-Cold-War relaxation vis-a-vis the Global War on Terror. Keep this in mind whenever you think Obama & Hillary's promise of going back to pre-Bush policies starts sounding good.
"I became convinced the isolationist mood of the country after World War I, not the harsh terms of the Treaty of Versailes, had made Wolrd War II inevitable. If we had maintained our military superiority throughout the twenties and thirties, President Roosevelt could have warned Hitler not to invade any neutral countries, and that warning would have been heeded."
Is this over-simplified? You bet. But sure does make a good point.
